D Jeffrey Comeau, Partner, Chicago Illinois

For over 25 years, D. Jeffrey Comeau has practiced in the area of civil litigation. A partner at O’Connor & Nakos, Ltd., he has during his career obtained numerous substantial recoveries for his clients throughout the State of Illinois. Included among those are a $3,200,000 verdict in a wrongful death action involving a railroad crossing in Will County, a $4,000,000 verdict in a medical malpractice action in Lake County, a $1,600,000 settlement in an automobile accident in Lee County, a $1,400,000 verdict in a work-injury action in Cook County, and a $3.8 million verdict for a pipefitter burned in an underground storage tank explosion in Cook County. For his track record of successful representation of persons who have suffered catastrophic injuries or other losses, Jeff has been selected for membership in The Million Dollar Advocates Forum and designation among Illinois’ Leading Lawyers, Leading American Lawyers and Illinois Super Lawyers. As Jeff travels more than 30,000 miles each year to represent his clients throughout the region, he is driven by the mission to right a terrible wrong that has been done. He attacks each case as a puzzle or maze that he knows he can solve in order to deliver justice for his clients.

Jeff’s recent verdicts and settlements highlights, all since 2000, include:

• $5,100,000 settlement for a Joliet ironworker who suffered a fracture and cognitive and speech disorders as the result of a head injury when he was struck by a crane boom.

• $4,500,000 for the death of a 56 year old ironworker due to a fall.

• $2,275,000 settlement for the wrongful death of an 11-year-old passenger on a motorcycle. The case settled against the operators of two vehicles that approached the roadway that the motorcycle was on, despite the fact the vehicles did not strike the motorcycle.

• $1,500,000 settlement for a traffic accident in Lake County, Illinois in which the client suffered multiple fractures and internal injuries when his car was struck at an intersection.

• $1,400,000 verdict for an ironworker from Joliet who was injured while he jumped to avoid being crushed by a truss; he suffered a herniated disc in the lumbar region of his back.

• $1,300,000 settlement for a carpenter who fractured an elbow when he fell through a roof opening at a construction site.

• $1,200,000 settlement for a mason receiving a spinal injury when a masonry wall collapsed.

• $1,200,000 verdict for a dockworker who was struck by a chock which had been thrown up in the air by a forklift; causing him to be thrown into a pile of steel and suffering a herniated disc.

• $1,200,000 settlement for an ironworker who suffered derangement to his knee when he slipped on Visqueen improperly stored on the construction site.

• $1,100,000 settlement for an ironworker who suffered a fractured ankle when a beam stored on uneven ground rolled onto the worker.

• $1,100,000 settlement for a roofer, in Lake County, who fell while installing jack ties.

• $1,115,000 for a Will County ironworker who sustained a back injury while removing decking sheets.

In addition to his trial practice, Jeff has authored chapters that have appeared in the Journal of Legal Medicine and the trial handbooks of the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education. He is a frequent lecturer for the Chicago Bar Association, the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education and the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association. In addition, Jeff has served as a judge for the annual moot court competitions held by the John Marshall Law School.
